    A Hearty Welcome to 2017!

    Dear Philadelphia Area Event Professionals:

A Hearty Welcome to 2017!   Our events industry is strong and continues as a major contributor to our local economy.  As an Industry we’ve had some grand successes these last few years: The Papal Visit in 2015 and the Democratic National Convention in 2016 are the most obvious.  Every day, our Industry and our members collaborate to deliver event and meeting experiences that enrich attendees while creating memories and positively impact our economy.  Our Industry is Important and Relevant!

Our recent successes, combined with our solid meetings infrastructure, great historical perspective, entertainment options, and solid community of event professionals continue to make the Philadelphia Area a great draw for organizations focused on delivering a great event experience.

As we continue to deliver, the meetings continue to book Philadelphia.  Welcome 2017 and bring on the NFL Draft!

Delivering spectacular meetings and events requires an ever evolving “fresh perspective” and a firm understanding of the opportunities and challenges facing our industry.

As our mission states: MPIPHL is dedicated to serving the diverse needs of meeting professionals through education, connections and leadership development.  I am happy to report that we have started the year strong with monthly education programs on technology, personal branding, and a unique approach to problem solving using the experience and brainpower of our membership.

In 2017, we will explore the current state of business etiquette and communications. We will continue to offer networking and meaningful community service opportunities.

Our largest education event of the year is quickly approaching. Registration is open for MPIPHL Education Institute on Wednesday February 15 at the Chase Center in Wilmington.

The day will begin with Brian Stevens, Founding President and CEO, ConferenceDirect and Chair-Elect MPI International Board of Directors speaking on “Meetings Industry Forecast 2017: What’s Next?”  The Education Institute runs from 9am to 4pm with 4.5 CE credits available covering many timely industry topics including meeting design and risk management, webcast and audio-visual, healthcare events, the meeting room of the future, and creating an online experience.  Our second keynote speaker features Wine Geek Jonathan Schroeder.  Finally, the day concludes with a networking event beginning at 4pm.

In addition to Education Institute, I invite you to join us on January 18th for Bosses Night- an opportunity to bring your Boss (for free!) to our monthly education program.  In March we’ll take a break from education for networking at our Annual Bowling Event. Later in the year we will celebrate our membership at our Annual Awards Event.

Most importantly, in 2017 I invite you to become a more engaged and active member in MPI PHL.  Strengthen your “Leadership Muscles”  and join a committee.  Katie Schultz, Director of Leadership Development, can assist you in finding the right volunteer opportunity, whether you are local or based in another part of the world, and if you have as little as an hour a month to contribute.  Katie can be reached at katie.schultz@chubb.com

Welcome to 2017 Event Professionals.  Our future is bright!
